Annette Funicello was 13 years old when she was discovered by the studio's head Walt Disney dancing in an amateur production called Swan Lake in Fullerton California. Funicello was, much to the annoyance of others Mickey Mouse Club stars, was added to the cast when the premiere season was over and didn't have to be auditioned for. The Disney's inclinations proved to be right as she quickly was the most sought-after performer of The Mickey Mouse Club and was featured in her own tale Adventures in Dairyland. Funicello had to start recording records in order to realize her superstar ability. Annette was not very thrilled about her singing, so Disney hired Tutti Camerata to be her manager who would guide her as an artist. Funicello eventually became accustomed to recording, and she enjoyed the time she spent together with Camerata who was one of the very few arrangers in their 40s who understood the fundamentals of rock's early days. Annette Sings Anka is the album that marked the start of her progress. This was possibly the very first rock-song LP. Funicello was co-starring with Frankie Avalon in Beach Party. It was the very first in a sequence of movies about beach parties which were hugely famous. The scripts of all of these movies were read and approved personally by Walt Disney so as to ensure the image of Annette was protected.
