Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. As a young girl, Ford was battling obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused through word-related associations. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She joined at the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she didn't fit in. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth attempt, she was finally admitted. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her fellow students. Ford did not finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. In the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer at the theater, ultimately joining the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, that were added to her show in the year 1996.
